The man behind Oculus AC

Let me introduce myself. I am Ole “elumineX” Rasmussen, programmer and developer at SteamBans.com for a couple of years now. My primary skills lie within C, C++, Assembly language and C# (.NET), and as a second passion I like to solve problems using Mathematics preferably combined with programming.

I am very experienced in development for the Half-Life engine, as it has been subject of personal study for several years.
I have always had a vision of automating things, from simple every-day tasks like mowing your lawn or cleaning your windows (no phun intended).

I am one of those persons who believe everything can be automated in some way; everything can be made easier, faster and more predictable with the help of computers. In the past two years I have been working voluntarily for SteamBans.com as Management Admin who takes care of practically everything in need, primarily demo reviewing and staff management. Working at SteamBans made me realize just how much work is put into demo-reviewing – and thus inspired me to create a solution that would make our work a lot faster and easier.

Oculus has always been a one-man project, and therefore has taken (and does still take) a very long time to reach where it is now. The idea came from my passion for online gaming and programming, the need to eliminate cheaters and my sole creativity and courage to create something completely new.

I would also like to mention the importance of having dedicated and inspiring people around. Without the continuous backup from the staff at SteamBans I could not have made it this far; particularly D_DK, KillahInstinct and Pulp have helped me keep the mood and dedication. Thanks guys!

What going ON?!

Plz talk more about Oculus!!! Is a "Beta" Ready to use?

A test server for u guys,

I run a cs 1.6 32 slots 24/7 server with a 100Mb/s down and upstream connection on a qore2 with 2 GB of ram and thats the only thing that runs on that computer.
The updaterate is 101 with 0 loss/choke on a full server :) (118.36.140.108:62507)
I don’t know what time is in the states but usually the server gets full around 12 PM korean time on weekends and around 2 PM on other days and it stays like that for like 12 hours :)
21 is the number of my admins but even if they’re in the server it still happens to get hackers on the server and i think i’m the only one who can tell the difference between a legit player(pro) and a hacker.
My ban list is hummmm, huge and if you want i’ll send you the list so u can see it for your self.

What i’m trying to say is that i can clear that list and the hackers will be back again with all kind of cheats(speed hax/aimbot hacks/wall hacks) & scripts & all that crap.
Amxx that runs on the server is 1.8.1 the latest, just upgraded a few days ago.
I mean if you want to test your software on a 32 players server then i can give you that.

You probably have a test server(32 slots 24/7) but i'm wondering if you get that many hackers to test the software with.
I'm pretty sure, no 100% sure that the server will be visited by hundreds of hackers(i've been banning like 5 or even 6 players per day, chinese(speed hax) and indians(wall/aim hax) are #1 in my book).
Like i said, the server gets full and it stays like that hours, then u can tell if it lags or not due to all that calculations.

Thank you and keep up the good work :D

What going ON?!

Is Oculus Dead? Whats going on?! Plz talk about over Oculus!!!

how far are you?

Hi, is there any chance to say when beta testing will begin or any first release date? will it be in 2008? or in 2009? Greetz

I Think the project ist

I Think the project ist inactiv.

Work progress?

Hi, I think it is a wonderfull idea you have come up with :) I just want to show my support and check how you are proceeding? Is there anything we/I can help you with? What I can contribute with is demo's of cheaters.... but I think you have a bundle of those :p Hope you are still working on this project! /sluggo

Хорошая идея

Хорошая идея если бы был такой анти чит а где его можно скачать и потестить????

My little idea.

To boost a performance of Oculus AC you can force Oculus to test (for example) 6 players per round starting from those with the biggest KILL:DEATH ratio. On big servers checking all players at the same time, probably will cause server lagging, so K:D ratio priorities are good solution. But probably you made that up already.

I understand your concern

I understand your concern regarding high resource usage, but this is imply not the case with Oculus. The main routines (speedhack, aimbot, no-spread not including wallhack) are -very- lightweight and will not affect the performance of the servers drastically. My design theory is to combine intelligent checking with intelligent times to check. What this means is that Oculus won't for example check for speedhack every game frame (playerPre/PostThink() for example)) as it just isn't necessary. The detection routines are also optimized for low resource usage, even on 32 and 64 player servers. Of course more players means more CPU power needed, and frankly I haven't made it to testing that large scale yet but theoretically it should work very well:)

I see. Sounds genius, But...

The worst cheat ever is WallHack or RadarHack (other cheats are visible and are easy to detect by a human) and my question is: 1) do you plan to make Oculus detecting WallHacks (and RadarHacks) ? Other question: 2) will Oculus recognise plugin-based server modifications (like Eventscripts or ES Tools) as authorised abnormalities? For example: a player kills some one with a knife and gets +50 HP (Syphon- Eventscripts) will Oculus BAN him ?

Point of view

I think, a good way to make clean the game is to use such AC like Oculus, which make a help to detect unknown cheats (most of that is in development stage or so) and simultiously run so called preventive AC, like VAC or sXe-Injeted, which get updated in regular basis. The only word is compatability between the ACs.

Likewhise

I would say that your dedication and work-ethic shows that non-profit organisations can be just as effective and reliable as a business if you have the right people :)

Dedication/Passion

Great work, your dedication is amazing specially being in a non profit organisation showing real passion and commitment for the work you are doing, This new anticheat would give a whole new entire gameplay with a reduction on cheaters. I would love to test this out on my servers, Having got 1 deathmatch server it attracts blatant cheaters like flys, such as aimbot e.t.c Keep up the good Work. Thank You Very Much.

Like the above said :) This

Like the above said :) This project reminds me of HackCam, which never got released unfortunately. I'm really looking forward to a demo for CS:S. I wish you success and energy :)

Its still alive :)

Well "Never" is the wrong word, as its currently still in testing. Even better its in a patent procedure atm. Everybody just forgot about it, but in real time its close to finished. Interview with the HackCam autor just a few weeks ago: http://www.adminrequest.com/index.php?site=news_comments&newsID=47&lang=uk Have a nice day :)
